Several years ago, two friends and business owners joined forces to bring Christmas back to Canal Street. Their goal was to make the Street a destination for families and visitors during the holiday season. The energy, initiative and input of many businesses and residents have achieved that goal and have made Canal Street the place to be this Christmas. A Community Christmas Tree sparkles in the center of Downtown, lights twinkle in the palm trees and oaks, and people gather to shop and celebrate. It all begins Thanksgiving weekend with Spark The Spirit tree lighting, caroling and entertainment on Friday night. Saturday is the Coastal Christmas Market featuring arts and crafts, local non-profits and commercial businesses. Girls Night Out follows several days later with a fashion show and a head start on holiday shopping. December's Bed and Breakfast Tour and taste showcases local B&Bs paired with local eateries for a glimpse of downtown hospitality.
